In a surprising turn of events, X has officially announced its departure from its iconic Market Street building in San Francisco. This decision comes just a month after the company revealed that it would be leaving its San Francisco home. According to reports from Fortune, X sent a brief note to its staff confirming that its global headquarters in San Francisco will close in two weeks, on Friday the 13th of September. This move marks the end of a 12-year era for X, which has been based in its Market Street HQ since its inception.

The primary reason cited for X’s relocation is California Governor Gavin Newsom’s new legislation, which prohibits local school districts from informing parents if their child expresses a desire to use different pronouns or identifies as a different gender than what is listed on their school record. X’s owner, Elon Musk, who has personal experience with his child transitioning, believes that the current education system is indoctrinating children with what he refers to as the “woke mind virus.” Musk claims that this ideology led to the tragic loss of his child and has caused him to sever ties with his now daughter.

With the closure of its San Francisco office, X’s remaining staff are being informed that they will be relocated to offices in San Jose or Palo Alto. Additionally, X plans to establish a new headquarters in Texas, where Elon Musk’s other businesses are located. However, the exact number of employees who will be required to relocate to Texas remains uncertain. This transition presents a significant challenge for X, as moving its entire workforce will be a complex and time-consuming process.

The decision to leave San Francisco marks a major shift for X and signifies the beginning of a new chapter for the company. Employees are now faced with the task of considering their travel and relocation requirements in order to continue working for the app. While the company has already experienced significant change under Elon Musk’s ownership, the relocation to Texas signals a distinct period in X’s history. As X prepares to move its operations out of California, it is clear that the company is undergoing a major transition both physically and symbolically.
