As the highly anticipated Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut prepares for its PC release on Steam, there has been much discussion surrounding the PlayStation Network (PSN) login requirement and its implications on multiplayer functionality. Developers Nixxes and Sucker Punch recently addressed concerns about the need for a PSN account to access certain features of the game, sparking a debate among players.

While players will not be required to sign in with a PlayStation Network account to enjoy the single-player campaign or the Iki Island expansion of Ghost of Tsushima, there is a different story when it comes to multiplayer. The co-op Legends mode, originally released as free DLC for the PlayStation 4 version of the game, will necessitate a PSN login for access, limiting the multiplayer experience for PC players.

One of the major issues highlighted by the developers is the incompatibility of Ghost of Tsushima’s multiplayer mode with the Steam Deck. The integration of PSN features for multiplayer gameplay means that Steammarks the game as “Unsupported” on the platform, which may come as a disappointment to players expecting a seamless experience across different devices.

Another factor to consider is the cross-play functionality between PlayStation and PC users, which is still in beta form at the game’s launch. While cross-play will be available, it will require manual invites from players to connect with others on different platforms, potentially hindering the matchmaking process for those looking to quickly jump into a game.

The decision to restrict the sale of Ghost of Tsushima in nearly 180 countries, including Japan where the game is set, due to the PSN login requirement has raised issues of accessibility. This move not only limits the reach of the game but also excludes players from regions where PSN accounts cannot be created, leading to frustration and disappointment among fans.

The mandatory PSN login requirement for Ghost of Tsushima on PC has sparked controversy and highlighted the challenges of integrating multiplayer features across different platforms. While the single-player experience remains unaffected, the limitations on multiplayer functionality and cross-play capabilities raise concerns about the overall gaming experience for players. The developers may need to reassess their approach to PSN integration to ensure a smoother and more inclusive gaming experience for all players.
