Sonos is gearing up to release the next generation of its Roam wireless AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth speaker in June. According to reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company has made significant tweaks to the hardware to address previous Bluetooth issues encountered with the speaker. Additionally, Sonos is set to introduce a new app specifically designed for its range of portable speakers.
App Support for High-End Headphones
The new app will not only cater to the upcoming Roam speaker but is also expected to provide support for Sonos’ rumored $449 high-end headphones. These headphones are rumored to hit the market around the same time as the new Roam release, adding to the company’s product lineup.
While the original Roam speaker received praise for its performance, there were notable drawbacks highlighted by users. One major issue was the inability to use stereo pairing over Bluetooth, which limited the speaker’s capabilities. Additionally, concerns were raised regarding the long-term durability of the battery, posing a challenge for some owners.
The new Roam speaker is expected to feature touch controls similar to Sonos’ Era 100 and 300 speakers. Alongside the Roam update, Sonos is reportedly working on a range of new products, including a TV set-top box and updated versions of the Sub, Era 100, and Sonos Arc soundbar. These developments indicate the company’s commitment to enhancing its hardware offerings and driving revenue growth.
