The collaboration with HaystackID and OnDefend is a part of TikTok U.S. Data Security Inc.’s efforts to ensure the safety and protection of user data. These firms will act as Independent Security Inspectors (ISIs) for the platform, conducting security testing and validation to identify potential risks to American users.
As a part of “Project Texas,” TikTok established the U.S. Data Security Inc. (USDS) to control access to protected U.S. user data and ensure data protection policies are in place. The USDS operates in the secure Oracle Cloud, focusing on data protection and content assurance protocols to provide an authentic user experience on TikTok.
While these efforts may help TikTok address concerns raised by U.S. regulators and senators, the platform is already facing a bill that would require it to be under U.S. ownership or face a ban in America. The Chinese ownership of TikTok has raised suspicions about its connection to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), leading to heightened scrutiny from U.S. officials.
TikTok’s security measures, despite the partnership with cybersecurity firms, may not be sufficient to change the minds of decision-makers in Washington.
