Infinity Nikki is an open-world dress-up adventure game developed by Infold and Kentaro Tominaga, known for his work on Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild. The game takes inspiration from Disney’s Beauty And The Beast ballroom scene, but with a unique twist – swapping out wailing utensils for an army of chibi cats and giving the protagonist, Nikki, low-key matter transformation powers akin to Doctor Manhattan.

In the game, players control Nikki, a princess or princess-adjacent heroine, who stumbles upon an enchanted dress in her wardrobe. This dress transports her to Miraland, a magical world where she meets a cursed goddess named Ena. Ena tasks Nikki with saving the world from evil using the power of the lost Miracle Outfits. Throughout her journey, Nikki acquires various outfits with different powers and skills, such as fishing, stealthy movement, electronics mastery, bug-catching, and even the ability to shrink herself to ride on her pet Moogle cat’s head. The gameplay combines elements of Final Fantasy X-2 with open-world exploration.

Miraland is a whimsical world filled with unique creatures and landscapes. Enemies in the game, such as Bouldy, are made of materials for extravagant dresses rather than traditional combat elements. The land is populated by tailors and stylists, adding a fashion-forward twist to the traditional RPG setting. Players can explore dungeons with platforming sequences, including a Dream Warehouse full of paper cranes representing wishes. Additionally, players can ride on magic trains, bicycles, minecarts in wine cellars, and even a giant bird following a fixed route around the map.

Despite the game’s focus on fashion and dress-up, it offers a light-hearted take on combat, referred to as monster purification, and incorporates Zeldary elements such as a Pear-Pal tablet for photoshoots and glide abilities from certain dresses. The game’s monetization strategy remains unclear, but it is expected to target a younger audience with a penchant for in-game purchases. Infinity Nikki’s emphasis on fashion in an open-world setting challenges traditional gaming norms and offers a fresh perspective on the role of aesthetics in gameplay.

Infinity Nikki presents a unique gaming experience that blends open-world exploration with fashion-forward gameplay. With its charming visuals and creative approach to combat and character customization, the game appeals to players of all ages. While the monetization elements may raise some concerns, the overall concept of a dress-up adventure in a magical world is both innovative and engaging. Infinity Nikki invites players to embrace their inner fashionista and embark on a whimsical journey through the enchanting world of Miraland.
