WhatsApp has recently expanded the rollout of its Meta AI chatbots in select markets, including India and the US. The instant messaging platform is now reportedly working on a new feature called ‘Imagine Me’ that will allow users to generate AI-generated photos of themselves.

According to reports, WhatsApp is developing an optional feature that will enable users to create images of themselves using Meta AI. Users may be required to upload a few reference selfies when they first opt into this feature. The latest WhatsApp beta for Android update, version 2.24.14.13, available via the Google Play Beta programme, contains references to this upcoming AI-based feature.

Once users provide a set of photos, the Meta AI chatbot will generate new AI images of them. Users can prompt the Meta AI to generate an AI image by typing “Imagine me” in the chat window. This feature is expected to allow users to select different backgrounds and locations, such as forests or outer space, to customize their pictures and create personalised stickers. Additionally, users will have the option to delete uploaded photos at any time through their settings.

The personalised AI image-creating feature is said to be optional, requiring users to manually enable it in their settings. It is anticipated to be included in a future update of the app. The Meta AI chatbot, which competes with ChatGPT, was recently introduced in India and is currently available on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, in addition to WhatsApp.

WhatsApp’s development of the ‘Imagine Me’ feature represents a significant advancement in utilizing artificial intelligence for user customization. This feature is likely to enhance the user experience by allowing for greater personalization and creativity in image generation. As technology continues to evolve, it is exciting to see how AI will be further integrated into messaging platforms to offer innovative and engaging features to users.
