YouTube recently announced the launch of a new feature called ‘Hype’ that aims to provide more community support to small content creators. This feature is currently being tested in select regions, including Brazil, Turkey, and Taiwan.
The ‘Hype’ feature allows viewers to give a video a ‘hype’ in addition to liking it. This will boost the video’s rankings amongst other videos published in the last seven days. The more hyped a video is, the higher it will be ranked on the platform. This feature is designed to help small content creators reach a wider audience and receive greater community support.
Only YouTube Partner Program creators with less than 500,000 subscribers are eligible for the ‘Hype’ program. Additionally, all of their videos must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines. This initiative is currently in the test phase and it is not yet known if it will be rolled out to more content creators in the future.
In addition to the ‘Hype’ feature, YouTube is also reportedly working on a sleep timer feature that could be introduced soon. This feature would allow users to set a timer for how long they want to watch a video before it stops playing.
YouTube already offers various ways for viewers to support content creators, such as liking and sharing videos, using options like Super Chat and Super Stickers to provide monetary benefits, and now with the introduction of the ‘Hype’ feature, creators have even more opportunities to gain visibility and support from their audience.
In addition to the ‘Hype’ feature, YouTube announced that it is testing a new feature that allows users to post comments below videos to provide more context. This experimental feature is currently available in the English language to users in the US. Users can add notes below videos to provide additional information and context for viewers.
Overall, YouTube’s new ‘Hype’ feature is a step towards providing more support to small content creators and helping them reach a wider audience. By introducing features like ‘Hype’ and experimenting with new tools like the comment notes, YouTube continues to evolve and improve the platform for both creators and viewers alike.
