During a recent internal all-hands meeting led by X CEO Linda Yaccarino, employees were concerned about the delay in the promotions process and the sales team not meeting revenue targets. With the company struggling under Elon Musk’s ownership, the fear of layoffs loomed large among the staff.

One of Musk’s key lieutenants, Steve Davis, has been reviewing finances at X’s headquarters, leading some employees to refer to him as “the grim reaper.” There have been reports of layoffs in recent days, with the departure of Yaccarino’s right-hand man, Joe Benarroch, raising suspicions among the remaining 1,500 staff members at X.

The all-hands meeting kicked off with a montage of viral tweets, including one by Keith Gill, followed by Yaccarino’s address from an X conference room named “eXtraordinary.” She focused on promoting live events on the platform and encouraged discussions about Musk’s x.AI chatbot Grok with advertisers. The emphasis on video as a driver of advertising revenue was mentioned, but without further details.

Plans for a New Promotion Process

X’s head of HR, Walter Gilbert, announced plans to implement a more comprehensive promotion process that includes check-ins throughout the year. However, many employee questions about HR, promotions, raises, and equity were left unanswered during the meeting. Despite being in San Francisco, Musk was notably absent, with other directors stepping in to join the discussion.

The recent all-hands meeting at X left employees with more questions than answers. The uncertainty surrounding performance reviews, revenue targets, and the possibility of layoffs has created a tense atmosphere within the company. As X navigates through these challenges under Musk’s ownership, communication and transparency will be key in addressing the concerns of the employees and maintaining morale within the organization.
