Redfall, the vampire shooter developed by Arkane Austin, has recently received its final update. This update, known as Redfall game update 4, brings with it a much-requested offline mode and the ability to pause the game in single-player mode. Additionally, players can now take advantage of new in-game progression features such as the Community Standing bar and Elder Nests. The Community Standing bar allows players to spend Support currency on rewards from the Safehouse Skill tree, while Elder Nests offer specially modified vampire bosses for players to defeat and earn temporary buffs.

The revamped Neighbourhood system introduces six ranks of Community Standing, providing players with 39 permanent buffs that enhance their gameplay experience. These buffs range from cosmetic upgrades to gameplay benefits, offering something for everyone. The developers have indicated that these upgrades are meant to cater to both quality of life improvements and enhanced gameplay, with some traits even assisting collectors in their quest for cosmetics and Grave Locks.

Microsoft recently made the decision to close Arkane Austin, along with Hi-Fi Rush developers Tango Gameworks, in a move to consolidate their Bethesda studio teams. This decision was made in order to allow for deeper investment in the portfolio of games and new IPs. While Arkane Austin’s previous works, such as the critically acclaimed Prey, have been well-received, Redfall struggled to live up to its potential. Despite its captivating setting and visual direction, the game was marred by bugs, a lack of engaging activities, and minimal post-launch support in its first year.

A Glimmer of Hope

Despite its shortcomings, Redfall had the potential to be something truly special. The game’s immersive world and attention to detail managed to captivate players, even in the face of its technical issues. The decision to add offline support in the final update demonstrates Arkane Austin’s commitment to their creation, even in the midst of layoffs and studio closures. While Redfall may never reach the heights it was intended to, the efforts of the development team ensure that it will not simply fade away when the servers are eventually turned off.

Farewell and Good Luck

As the developers bid farewell to Redfall and Arkane Austin, it is clear that the journey was not without its challenges. Despite the game’s flaws, there is a sense of pride and accomplishment in having brought the world of Redfall to life. The closure of the studio may mark the end of an era, but it also signals new beginnings for those involved. To the survivors of Arkane Austin, we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors, and we thank you for your dedication and passion in creating games that have left a lasting impact on players around the world.
