X recently made an exciting announcement that its Premium subscribers in the U.K. now have access to the Grok AI chatbot. This marks a significant milestone as the U.K. becomes the first country in the European region to enjoy the benefits of X’s AI interface.
Grok, now available in all countries where X Premium is accessible, except for E.U. and E.E.A. member nations, offers users the ability to ask conversational queries to the system and receive direct answers in-stream. This chatbot is essentially X’s response to the popular ChatGPT trend, where social apps are integrating chatbots into their interfaces to tap into the broader AI revolution.
It is worth noting that X’s owner, Elon Musk, was an early investor in OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT. However, Musk distanced himself from the project after his failed attempt to take on the role of CEO. Consequently, Musk launched his own AI tool, leveraging X’s vast post database to ensure real-time accuracy.
Following Brexit, the U.K. ceased to be an E.U. member state, positioning itself outside of Europe in a jurisdictional sense. This shift in status has paved the way for U.K. citizens to access the Grok chatbot ahead of their E.U. counterparts. While X is still in talks with E.U. regulators to launch the chatbot in the region, Britons can now enjoy the sassy responses of X’s chatbot, which Musk proudly labels as “not woke” and designed to answer questions with wit and a rebellious touch.
The Grok chatbot draws inspiration from “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” a creation of English author Douglas Adams. This alignment with British culture may resonate well with U.K. users and potentially drive more sign-ups for X Premium.
Despite the introduction of Grok, the interest in X’s subscription service has been minimal, with less than 1% of X’s user base opting for the Premium tier. However, there is optimism that Grok will serve as a stronger incentive to attract more paying users. As the chatbot continues to evolve and enhance its capabilities, it could become a key factor in enticing users to upgrade to X Premium and unlock its full potential.
