Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is launching a new series of workshops across the United States aimed at educating parents on how to better manage their child’s screen time. The “Screen Smart” workshops will address the potential risks of online exposure and provide parents with tools to minimize these risks.

The workshops will be held in five U.S. cities, starting with Denver and followed by Charleston, Houston, Boston, and Los Angeles. Meta experts will be on hand to provide hands-on educational workshops for parents, as well as presentations from academics and clinicians on supporting teens’ online experiences.

Meta’s workshops are part of the company’s ongoing efforts to protect teenagers online. In addition to the workshops, Meta has implemented new measures in its apps to combat issues such as sextortion scams, self-harm content, and impersonation links. These measures are designed to limit potential harm and exposure to teenagers using Meta’s platforms.

Meta also offers tools like the Family Center, which allows parents to monitor their children’s app usage. However, these tools are not foolproof, as children can often bypass parental controls. The workshops aim to educate parents on how to effectively use these tools and ensure that their children are using them appropriately.

The “Screen Smart” workshops build upon the success of Meta’s previous workshop series held in select U.S. cities last year. By providing more information and resources to parents, Meta is empowering them to take an active role in managing their children’s online activity.

Meta’s “Screen Smart” workshop series is a valuable initiative for educating parents on how to navigate the challenges of managing their child’s screen time. By equipping parents with the knowledge and tools they need to protect their children online, Meta is helping to create a safer digital environment for teenagers. Parents in the five U.S. cities where the workshops will be held should consider attending to learn from Meta’s experts and enhance their understanding of online safety.
